How To Prevent Split Ends

By Scot Robinson at 2010-07-06 02:50:57
Have you ever brushed your hair, only to see a stringy clump of it, left dangling from your brush? Or, have you tried to create styles that didn't turn out as good as you wanted, because your split ends were obvious? Do you wear your tresses in braids, only to see the breakage at the roots?

These are examples of nagging problems and frustrations that many people encounter, mostly women, when they talk about their "locks". A visit to your local salon will get your ends clipped even, but as it grows, you notice that the split ends are appearing again.

Preventing Split Ends

1) Treat your hair as you would a fine fabric. Use shampoos and conditioners with hair thickeners.

2) Squeeze the water from the hair with an absorbent towel as rubbing can damage it.

3) Gently comb tangles from wet hair with a large tooth comb and never a brush it as it can stretch and snap easily.

4) If your hair is still hard to comb out use a 'leave in' conditioner to make it more manageable.

5) Try to keep your hair a reasonable length and avoid using hair dryers, curling tongs, perms and colours which can all cause damage.

Spray the beer: If you do not get any respite from using the mayonnaise, you can use beer as a good setting lotion that gives your hair the crisp, healthy and shiny look. You can pour some beer into an empty pump bottle and spray on the hair after shampooing and towel dry. Then you can style or blow-dry the hair.

Apart from these causes, another important reason for the growth of split ends is ignoring the significance of trimming. To maintain the beauty and shine of the hair, trimming is important at least once in six weeks or else it will grow to the hair shafts and damage the originality and beauty of the hair.

Split ends should not be left unattended. Some splits can split right up the entire hair shaft or else the split ends themselves will actually split, leaving you with split split ends. Use a clarifying shampoo about once a month...silicone builds up, which you want, because keeps the split ends "bonded" to hair so they can not be seen. Avoid vent brushes with plastic bristles.

One of the easiest ways to damage the hair is to comb it or treat it harshly, while it is wet. While hair is wet it is in its most fragile state. To correct this, and to prevent split ends, after washing and conditioning your hair, gently comb out any tangles with a wide toothcomb. If your hair is difficult to comb thru, use a leave in conditioner, and comb your hair from the ends to the root with either a wide toothcomb or your fingers.

Simple idea that everyone should know and use but you would be surprised how many people neglect this step. Every time you wash your hair you should apply a conditioner and focus on the ends of your hair to keep them hydrated and less likely to split.
