There are a number of varieties of eczema types common to most people. Each seems to be unique, but all share very similar types of symptoms. Familiarize yourself with these five types and you'll be in better shape to deal with each if the need arises

Atopic Dermatitis
This is by far the most prevalent form of eczema seen. It presents symptoms of itchy, reddened skin that is dry. It is thought to arise due to improper functioning of the immune system, and the most alarming facet of this type of eczema is the fact that it will appear and disappear seemingly without warrant.

Contact Dermatitis
The origin of this eczema type is exclusively as a result of physical contact between irritants and the skin. There are two kinds: Irritant contact dermatitis and allergic contact dermatitis. The first results from contact from environmental irritants such as detergents, chemicals in the working environment, soaps, perfumes, jewelry, nickel, cosmetics, clothing etc.

Seborrhoeic Eczema
You may have this type if your age is in the range of 20 - 40 years old. Some medical experts believe that mushroom can be the cause of this eczema. There are some parts of your body that this eczema may appear, such as, upper body, ears, or face. If you have this type, your skin will be red, flakey, and sore.

Dyshidrotic dermatitis.
This kind of eczema involves swelling and blisters all over the affected area. While more severe than atopic dermatitis, it can be treated the same way, although it may require a steroid based topical cream. I recommend consulting a dermatologist before using any sort of treatment with this form of eczema.

Varicose Eczema
Varicose eczema tends to only affect adults, and is caused by bad circulation in the legs. This type of eczema only occurs on the legs, usually around the ankles.

Nummular eczema
is fairly uncommon and usually only appears on elderly men. It looks like round scaly patches that are inflamed and extremely itchy and often appear on the backs of your legs, arms and buttocks. Most of the time, those people who have had atopic eczema earlier in their lives are more at risk for developing nummular eczema.

Discoid Eczema
This condition can affect people of any age, but tends to be more common in the elderly. It manifests itself as a red, dry, itchy, circular patch usually around the lower legs or feet.

Eczema Prevention

Eczema can be prevented by taking few simple but essential measures in addition to eczema treatments. These precautions can effectively reduce the severity and frequency of eczema. The primary precaution is frequent moisturizing that you must not miss under any circumstances, if you really care about coming out of the irritations of eczema.

There is also infantile seborrheic eczema known as cradle cap. Dandruff, or adult seborrheic eczema can spread to other areas of the body, and is most commonly noticed in adults between the ages of 20 and 40. There is also a type known as varicose eczema, which is found in elderly people, and a type known as discoid which generally appears in middle age.
